HALLOWEEN 2019

A HUGE LEAP FORWARD.

Despite the success I felt like we were having with the progression of the haunt and its impact, I really felt like I was still living with some crappy construction issues from the things I made initially. Poor jobs that we’re tough on installation every year and just didn’t have the visual impact and “realness” that I was looking for. So… I tore everything down and looked at it and tried to rebuild right both from an easy-installation standpoint and an overall fit and finish angle. It felt great and I learned a lot.

THE HAUNT

This year, I moved away from the “TOXIC SPILL” theme and into a more traditional cemetery approach. Hey, I can always go back to it if I feel like it. The continued addition of some new higher quality props and additional touches throughout made for a powerful overall impression in the daytime and at night.

OTHER HALLOWEEN PROJECTS

Creating is a way for me to celebrate. It’s awesome for me to take on projects like these to broaden my celebration of the season. Just a helluva good time for me.

SAM DAN VINTAGE COSTUME ILLUSTRATIONS

I’m a designer. I created a series of illustrations rooted in the classic Ben Cooper costumes of my childhood. Ben Cooper costumes were manufactured from the 30s through the late 80s. Though they made little sense to me in their heyday, I have since really connected with their iconic style. I replaced Ben Cooper with “SAM DAN,” inspired by the name of a go-to writer for the classic CBS Radio Mystery Theater series. Just something fun for the season.

EXORCIST PORTRAITS

I created these during Halloween 2019 for a zine project built around “THE EXORCIST” called “THE SOW IS MINE.” The project was birthed by veteran zine master David Koenig, of “HARDWARE” fame. They ended up being featured on the back cover. I had a ton of fun with these and really love the style.
